Androlepis skinneri is a terrestrial bromeliad, native to Central America and southern Mexico. It is an extremely popular landscape plant because it can be placed in full sunlight and will become a very intense red color when done so. It also tends to be quite hardy and even drought tolerant. It can grow to extreme size, in some cases as large as 5' across. It is one of the only bromeliads that is dioecious, meaning there is a male and female plant. When it blooms, the flower spike can reach up to 4' in length and tends to be snow white in color.
