Aechmea blanchetiana 'Rubra' can be distinguished from other blanchetianas by it's infused "hot" red color when grown in full sun. It has at wide leaf and a stiff leaf form. When in a juvenile stage, or grown in shade or soft filtered light, Rubra will have a softer yellow-green coloration although it will attain it's beautiful "hot" red and yellow color when grown in sufficient light. Attains sizes of up to 36" across and 36" wide. potted specimens in the pictures are in the juvenile stage.
