Neoregelia cruenta is a large bromeliad that grows in a rosette and can attain a size of 2 feet across under optimal growing conditions although under 18 inches is more common. It usually grows on the ground in full or partial sun. The leaves are thick and leathery, 2-3 inches wide with spiny margins. This is a variable Species: Some plants have leaves that are yellowish green with red tips and red spines; some are yellow and still others (Rubra) are deep red. 'Selecta' is a special selection of a clone that has the outstanding characteristics of size, shape, and color.
