Tillandsia duratii is best appreciated for two separate and distinctive traits. First is its unique form with its long curling tentacle like leaves. In nature, these leaves are for hooking and hanging onto tree limbs and twigs. This is almost unique in nature. The second trait is that of its spectacular inflorescence which is quite long and colorful. especially colorful are its bright purple and very fragrant flowers. The fragrance is so sweet and so powerful, that it can often be discerned 10-15 meters from the plant. This Tilly can become quite large sometimes reaching several feet long.
