Aechmea ampla is a most striking species having a form more more reminiscent a Hoenbergia than that of an Aechmea. This Species is a very popular collectors item known for it's green to yellow-green base leaf color with super intense red coloring at the leaf tip that almost seems to be painted on. An excellent addition to the tropical landscape. Ampla requires full sunlight and somewhat dry conditions for best coloring. Best grown in well drained mounded location when grown in the landscape that receives heavy rains or irrigation. Averages 18" -20" tall at maturity. Quite prolific, especially when given some of our time-release fertilizer in the soil mix.
