Portea alatisepala 'Purple' is native to the eastern coast of Brazil where it thrives in strong light and can grow to 5' across and 3' tall. The foliage of this Species is a strong purple color and is quite attractive although heavily protected by sharp spines. The branches of the Inflorescence are somewhat lengthy, making the bloom even more stunning. Portea alatisepala produces a tall bloom of purple flowers followed by dark purple berries. Averages 24"-30" tall and 24"-30" wide.
