Aechmea bracteata

Aechmea bracteata is a marvelous species endemic to Mexico, Central America and Northern South America. It is a very large grower that is found growing both in tree branches as well as terrestrially. When grown in grown in shadier conditions, its leaves will spread out and will be a dark green color. When grown in direct sunlight, the plant will assume a more compact, upright nature with much lighter green leaves. Either way, the inflorescence can be most spectacular with its bright reds and yellows as it droops from the plants center leaves. Averages up to 24" tall and 24" wide at maturity. Excellent in the tropical or subtropical landscape.
